Ancient Angkor

A mere day and a half to see the ruins felt like a crime, but we crammed all of the major sites into the little time we had. They are certainly impressive, though I fear after my experience at Machu Picchu last summer I'm a bit jaded. Perhaps it was also the lack of solitude.

The carvings, long stone corridors, and statues are unforgettable. A quiet Bayon at sunrise was probably the highlight.
Bantay Srei was particularly impressive with the detail and care of its stone work. The famous Angkor Wat is impressive indeed, though I have to sadly admit that the stench of bat excrement, the hoardes of tourists, and the heat significantly compromised my experience.
